Actually, U.S. troops of the 26th “Yankee” Division had been in battle in France since early February, 1918…

Readers, Soldiers’ Mail is a terrific blog based on letters and diaries written by Sgt. Samuel E. Avery, who served with the 8th Regiment of the Massachusetts National Guard and was sent to the Mexican War in 1916. He then went to France as a member of the 103rd Infantry Regiment, 52nd Infantry Brigade, 26th “Yankee” Infantry Division.
